I went into the Iron Claw not knowing much about it besides that it was produced by A24, it had an 8/10 on IMDB, Zac Efron was in it, it was biopic about wrestling. I unfortunately don’t have a whole lot to say about it, I thought it was well made and there were some good performances, especially from Efron.
The issue was I was expecting to be more engaged and drawn into the wrestling aspect than I ended up being, I’m not a huge racing fan but Gran Turismo gave me a better appreciation for race car drivers. The remaining plot was about family drama, which had its moments where I felt some impact, but it wasn’t consistent enough with it. Having said that the third act is pretty impactful and partially saved the film for me. I wish there had been more time for Lily James and for Zac Efron’s dynamic with them.
If you’re into wrestling I could see this being great, otherwise it’s interesting more than entertaining.
Score:
Enjoyment: 6.7/10 (would’ve been 6.5/10 without the last 15-20 minutes) Critically: 7.3/10
