Room at its core is about relationships, communication and perseverance. It is a very touching film about a young mother raising a child in a difficult environment. This film is an outstanding portrayal of human nature: where it is beautiful and where it is ugly, and I was gripped by it. I wasn’t so engrossed at the very start, I still thought it was good but wasn’t sure where the progression was going to come from but then the suspense built, and I was fully invested.
The characters are so well written and feel so genuine from the performances of Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, and Joan Allen. Stephen Rennick’s rich score also does an impressive job of driving tonal, emotional shifts in the film.
I really wanted it to be 30 minutes longer, it absolutely works at the length that it is, and the conclusion may not have been as good if it was longer, but I wanted to see the further growth and bonding of these characters [not a criticism].
A wonderful surprise from such an unexpectedly beautiful film.
