Coach Carter is a High School basketball movie, based on true events, about respect, commitment and self-improvement. I thought this film was good, the story was solid, the message was good, it was well paced, and it was interesting. My only criticism is that there was a subplot which I thought was nice but didn’t add a whole lot to the main narrative and at times felt like it was just slowing the film down. Samuel L. Jackson does a pretty good job as Coach Carter, Octavia Spencer gives a memorable performance in the small amount of screen time she has and Channing Tatum is in this film too.
I finished this film with some of faith in humanity restored. If you want a film with a feel good message that has an existential edge, then you should watch Coach Carter.
